Atlético Madrid vs FC Porto Preview 15/09/2021

La Liga champions, Atlético Madrid, will welcome Porto to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium this Wednesday as the two look to get their Champions League campaigns off to what is set to be one of the toughest groups this season.

In Group B, Liverpool and AC Milan will also contest for the knockout rounds, making this, alongside Group A, perhaps as hard as it gets for any club and Porto, in particular, are set for a tough task ahead.

The Portuguese giants have had a topsy-turvy start to their Primeira Liga campaign, as although they are unbeaten, they remain four points off leaders Benfica and have drawn two and won three from their first five fixtures.

Porto have still managed to bring in a heap of goals, however, with their nine goals being the joint-second most of all teams in Portugal, as only Benfica have bagged more. At the same time, they have only let in three, and it does seem like they could find a bit of momentum soon.

The club did face off with the champions Sporting Lisbon in the last game, where a 1-1 draw was played out. Luis Diaz scored a brilliant goal that day, but Toni Martinez was sent off, but he will, however, be available for this one.

As for Atletico, they entered this season as La Liga champions for the first time in seven seasons as Diego Simeone’s men put on a defensive masterclass throughout the 2020/21 campaign to rule over Spain once more.

The club have since had a successful transfer window and have upped their chances of winning more silverware this year by resigning their former legendary striker, Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman, now wearing the number eight shirt, made his second debut for the club last weekend but was brought off in the second half after a poor game.
