The second round to fixtures in the 2021/22 English Premier League season begin on Saturday and one of the matches to be played is between defending champions Manchester City and newly promoted Norwich City.

The game will take place at the Etihad Stadium, with both teams hoping to bounce back from a disappointing defeat on the opening day of the season.

Manchester City come into the match having lost 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Pep Guardiola’s team do not have a great record at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and were missing some of their key players for the fixture, including John Stones, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, and Kevin De Bruyne. Manchester City started the game well but Spurs stuck to their task and were a threat on the counterattack, scoring the only goal of the game following a break in the 55th minute.

The result comes on the back of a 1-0 loss against Leicester City in the Community Shield match at Wembley Stadium on the 7th of August and Guardiola will be keen to get the first win of the season in this game.

Despite the disappointing start to the campaign trends show Manchester City are unbeaten in 26 of their last 31 matches in the Premier League. In Manchester City’s last 4 home matches of Premier League, there have been over 2.5 goals scored and Manchester City have kept only one clean sheet in their last 7 Premier League fixtures at the Etihad Stadium.

Norwich City travel north having suffered a 3-0 opening day defeat at home against Liverpool. Norwich City were second best for much of the game and rarely threatened to score a goal throughout the 90 minutes. Having fallen a goal behind in the 26th minute, Liverpool added to their opening goal in a 10 minute spell in the second half.

If we go back to the last time Norwich City were in the Premier League which was during the 2019/20 season, the defeat against Liverpool means The Canaries have lost each of their last 11 Premier League fixtures and have recorded just a single victory from their 16 most recent Premier League games.

Norwich City have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 9 away Premier League matches and have conceded 2 or more goals in each of those 6 games.

Team news and Manchester City should be able to welcome back Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and Kyle Walker to the starting XI. Phil Foden is injured and Ilkay Gündogan is a doubt due to a shoulder problem.

Norwich City are expected to be without Sam Byram due to a hamstring injury. They had problems due to COVID-19 prior to the game against Liverpool and Andrew Omobamidele, Przemyslaw Placheta, Onel Hernandez, Jordan Hugill remain doubtful.

Manchester City will be looking to make a statement following their opening day loss against Tottenham Hotspur and this should be the perfect fixture for Guardiola’s team. We expect to see Manchester City take maximum points with over 2.5 goals scored but Norwich City could make things interesting with a goal of their own.
