On Thursday night, Sao Paulo and Santos go head-to-head in a game that could be vital for both teams’ chances of achieving their aims in Serie A.

Sao Paulo are in 13th place in the Serie A table, level with on points with 12th place Ceara, who occupy the final qualification spot for next season’s Copa Sudamericana.

However, they are behind their rival’s courtesy of an inferior goal difference.

A 1-1 draw last time out with Chapecoense means that the home side are unbeaten in four Serie A games. However, the game was also their third straight draw in the Brazilian top-flight.

The game was Sao Paulo’s third straight outing in Serie A that produced under 2.5 goals.

Hernan Crespo’s team have been hard to beat at home of late in the Brazilian top-flight, as they are currently unbeaten in their last five league games on home soil.

They have also kept three clean sheets in their previous five home games in Serie A.

Santos are currently just a point above the relegation zone, although this is their game in hand on 17th place Bahia. The visitors have failed to win in their previous eight games in the Brazilian top-flight.

Last time out, Santos suffered a 3-0 defeat at Juventude.

The game illustrated the visitor’s main problem, in that they failed to score for the fourth time in their last five league outings.

Fabio Carille’s team have also struggled for away wins in the Brazilian top-flight, as they have failed to win in their last four matches on their travels.

The visitors have been poor defensively of late on the road, having conceded at least two goals in six of their last nine away games.

PlusBet.net predicts that this game will finish in a low-scoring draw, which will fail to help either team’s chances of achieving success in Serie A this season.
